Project Summary and Introduction
FRAMEWORKS will bring together film animators, both experienced and new, from a diverse cultural pool, for an eight month intensive period of workshops, collaboration and creation. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the program will support 9 filmmakers, three experienced film animators and six new animators, to create short films together using AFCOOP’s facilities and resources.

Guidelines/Eligibility: NEW Animators
To apply to be a Frameworks new filmmaker, you will have not completed an animated film on film.
Your applications will be assessed primarily on your willingness to learn, your enthusiasm for the project and your film idea. You must attend all workshops and meetings. If successful, you will receive a series of training workshops and be given the equipment and supplies needed to make your 30 second animated film with sound on 16mm film. You will also have an experienced filmmaker as your mentor to offer help and support throughout the process.

Guidelines/Eligibility: Experienced Animators
To apply to be a Frameworks mentor, you will have finished an animation work on film. The Project you
wish to complete through the program must also be completed on film. You will be given a budget of
$3,000.00 in equipment and services (camera rentals, lab fees, music recording, etc). You may seek additional funding if required but only if you can complete your project within the time allowed and such funding does not jeopardize your creative control or ownership of the material.
You will be required to mentor two of the new filmmakers and include them, in some way, in the production of your film. Your goal shall be to create a three minute animated film that challenges your own ideas and the limitations of the medium.
