FILM 5 is an intermediate level training program for emerging Nova Scotia Writers, Directors and Producers, as well as aspiring film crew.
The cornerstones of the FILM 5 program are professional, creative, project and relationship development. Its principle objectives are:
- To provide emerging filmmakers with meaningful training opportunities designed to enhance their abilities while preparing them to pursue larger scale production opportunities (specifically feature film projects).
- To provide training that bridges the gap bridge between the completion of basic training and the launch of a career in the film industry.
- To assist with the creation of up to four high-quality short films that will perform at the national level, and which can be used by the filmmakers to advertise their abilities.
- To provide aspiring technical crew with classroom and on-set training.
- FILM 5 delivers on these objectives through a unique combination of classroom learning, mentorship from professional filmmakers and administrative support.
Achievements
Established in 1994, FILM 5 is the flagship educational and production program of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative. Since its beginnings, FILM 5 has provided training and professional development opportunities for a total of sixty-two creative team members (emerging Nova Scotian writers, directors and producers) and well over two-hundred trainee crew members in every major department of a film crew. To date over thirty high quality short films have been produced through the program. Past creative team members have included award-winning filmmakers such as Thom Fitzgerald, Andrea Dorfman and Jay Dahl. FILM 5 films have screened at festivals nationally and internationally.
