Halifax Explosion 100th Anniversary – an animated film commissioning project
AFCOOP is pleased to announce a call for expressions of interest from filmmakers for a commissioning project commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Halifax Explosion. AFCOOP is applying to HRM for funding to commission 3 original, animated short films that commemorate, educate, explore or reflect the diversity of communities that were impacted by this tragic historical event. From the HRM grant description:
“The Halifax Explosion 100th Anniversary Commemoration will honor the memory of those who died and suffered as a result of the explosion, will educate current and future generations about the significance of the event, and will celebrate the resilience of Halifax in rising from destruction to restore the full potential of the city and its people”.
AFCOOP will provide: AFCOOP will provide up to $2,000 cash (contingent on funding) and $2,000 in-kind facilities and equipment rentals (valued at commercial rates) towards each of the projects.
Interested filmmakers please submit the following:
- Artist Statement / Letter of Intent - describe your practice as an animator (stop-motion, digital, drawn etc.) and include a brief description of what you would like to explore in your film (1-2 page max)
- Filmography (include screenings, awards, format and duration)
- Sample of your work (vimeo or dropbox link to one piece that best represents your practice)
Eligibility: This program is open to emerging and established artists. Since there is no formal training component, applicants must be able to compete their project with their current skills or seek assistance or instruction outside of the program.
Evaluation: A peer-jury of filmmakers will select 3 applicants to put forward with AFCOOP’s application to HRM. Applications will be assessed based on the originality of the idea for the film, the applicants’ ability to complete the project and the quality of the support material.
Deadline: Nov. 21st 2016 11:59pm.
Submit: send PDFs via email to email@example.com with the subject line “Halifax Explosion”
Please note that this is a call for expressions of interest. We do not have confirmed funding for the project yet. We acknowledge that this call has a quick turn-around time. The opportunity to apply to this grant came to AFCOOP’s attention unexpectedly and we apologize for the short notice.
