POSITION: HIFF Festival Coordinator
Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival
DATES: March 5th – June 29th 2018
HOURS: Full-time (7hr/day)
PAY: $17.28/hr

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HIFF Festival Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing the planning, implementation and wrap-up of the 12th annual Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival in June 2018. This position will work with other AFCOOP staff, HIFF Programming Committee and volunteers to produce a four-day festival which will include screenings, receptions, installations, daytime masterclasses and one-on-one meetings between local filmmakers and guest programmers from Canadian and International festivals.

JOB COMPONENTS:

Pre-Festival
The Festival Coordinator’s role before the festival will be to create, implement and manage an overall plan for the festival. The Festival Coordinator will work with other contract staff and committees to execute this plan including: securing the main festival programming; finalizing the schedule; promoting and managing the call for entries; working with festival partners; approaching sponsors; overseeing ad sales; securing screening venue; working with the festival designer; updating the website; overseeing the creation of festival marketing materials; booking travel for guests; gathering content for the program guide and planning the volunteer schedule.

During the Festival
HIFF will take place June 6th – 9th at Neptune’s Scotiabank Stage Theatre in downtown Halifax.  During the festival the Festival Coordinator will be responsible for working with the venue and venue staff, managing volunteers, managing box-office and ticketing, working with technical and projection staff, overseeing the communications plan, ensuring sponsorship agreement fulfilment and facilitating the needs of festival guests and delegates.

Post-Festival
Following the festival, the Festival Coordinator will be responsible for wrapping up all the festival business including payment of artist fees, return of equipment, return of print traffic materials, sponsorship thank-you’s, collecting feedback from audience and visiting guests, compiling festival metrics and completing final reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have the following: excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, experience with festival or event coordination, proven ability to meet deadlines, experience supervising staff and the ability to multi-task. The position requires the use of the following programs (in a Mac environment): Word, Excel, SquareSpace, Photoshop, WildApricot, FilmFreeway, Google Drive, and various social media platforms. Familiarity with AFCOOP / HIFF and a love for independent cinema will be viewed favorably.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HIFF Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications and marketing plan for the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival in June of 2018. Working with the Festival Coordinator and other HIFF staff, the coordinator will be responsible for the creation and distribution of press releases; updating social media; researching and connecting with other organizations and groups; and scheduling and booking ad space.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate should have experience with and knowledge of social media platforms, website software (such as SquareSpace), bulk email client applications and basic office tools such as Word, Excel and Photoshop. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favorably but is not necessary. Communications experience will also be vied favourably but is not required. This a learning position and the successful applicant will work with the support and supervision of other HIFF and AFCOOP staff and committees.
