Please join the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative (AFCOOP) Thursday November 29th at 7pm at Halifax Central Library’s Paul O’Regan Hall for the world premiere of the five Languages of Nova Scotia short films.

Languages of Nova Scotia is a one-time AFCOOP initiative that celebrates language diversity in our province. After running introductory filmmaking workshops in five different language communities last year a call for submissions was put out. Community-juried competitions were held in each of the five language communities and five filmmakers were chosen to receive training and production funding to create short films. The filmmakers and their films are:

“The Party” by Jinos Akhtarkhavari (Farsi)

“L’Acteur” by Jana Doiron (French)

“Slighe Agnais/A Journey for Agnes” by Jenny MacKenzie (Gaelic)

“Return Flight” by Suzan Oram (Maritime/American Sign Language)

“Apija’simk” by Trevor Gould (Mi’kmaw)

The films were all made this summer across Nova Scotia and will be screened together with the filmmakers in attendance. After the screening a Q&A will be held with the filmmakers. This is a free admission event.

Languages of Nova Scotia was funded through the Canada Council for the Arts and the Province of Nova Scotia.
