POSITION: HIFF Promotions Coordinator
Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival

DATES: April 1, 2019 – June 28, 2019
HOURS: Full-time (7hr/day) 35 hrs/week
WAGE: To be determined by Employment Nova Scotia

The HIFF Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing promotions and a marketing strategy for the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (taking place June 12 – 15, 2019) and events leading up to the festival. Working closely with the Festival Coordinator and other HIFF staff, the Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and executing festival marketing campaign;
  • Designing promotional materials, print and digital;
  • Updating and maintaining HIFF website (SquareSpace);
  • Creating and sharing content regularly for social media;
  • Drafting press releases and composing HIFF newsletters;
  • Promoting HIFF-related events through various outlets;
  • Liaising with festival partners;
  • Researching and connecting with other organizations and groups;
  • Working closely with Lead Designer on festival branding.



The candidate should possess promotions and/or marketing experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating graphics, and/or experience with design software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc) is required. The candidate should have experience with and knowledge of social media platforms, website software, bulk email client applications and basic office tools such as Word, Excel, and Google Suite. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favorably but is not necessary. Experience with SquareSpace will also be viewed as an asset. This a learning position and the successful applicant will work with the support and supervision of other HIFF and AFCOOP staff and committees.


This job is *intended to be* funded through the Job Creation Partnership Program of Employment Nova Scotia. JCP is a program designed to support projects that will provide Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) eligible participants with meaningful work experience that will improve their employment prospects. The focus of JCP is to aid participants in acquiring work experience that will assist them in securing  full time employment.

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • have a current Employment Insurance (EI) claim
  • have had an EI claim that ended within the last 60 months
  • have been employed with gross insurable earnings of $2000 or higher annually, in at least 5 of the last 10 years

The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF) is a boutique festival dedicated to showcasing bold, innovative film and media art from the Atlantic region and around the world. The festival includes screenings, receptions, expanded cinema installations, masterclasses and one-on-one meetings between local filmmakers and guest programmers from Canadian and International festivals. HIFF is produced by the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative with the generous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage, Telefilm Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, the City of Halifax, and The Coast. The festival takes place June 12-15 2019 at Neptune Scotiabank Stages Theatre.
