writing BIG

It’s time to write your first feature film.

Have you always wanted to write a feature film but never had the time? That’s a rhetorical question, of course you have! And what better time than right now…during a global pandemic.

Joking aside, a lot of people are interested in writing a feature film but are unsure how to take what seems like the giant step up from writing shorter narrative films. Unfortunately, a lot of these people talk themselves out of it. It doesn’t have to be intimidating though and that’s where our new program comes in.

AFCOOP programs coordinator and screenwriter Iain MacLeod will walk participants through the process and you will leave the program with an actual feature screenplay.

Here’s how it works. Participants will enter the program not having written a feature previously (depending on an individual’s experience, exceptions may be made for this on a case by case basis but anyone with a produced feature script will be ineligible). Via Zoom participants will meet as a group with Iain acting as story editor/mentor. There will be four initial meetings, once a week for a month, in which participants will emerge with a solid story and plan to write it. Afterwards, there will be check in meetings every two weeks for two months. By the end of the program participants will have written a feature screenplay. The program is FREE and applications are open to AFCOOP members (Associate membership is only $40).

Timeline:

  • To apply, fill out the application form online. Deadline June 15.
  • A jury will pick up to six participants.
  • Initial weekly story meetings – July
  • Check in meetings every two weeks – August & September
  • International recognition and glory – to be determined.

Eligibility:

  • Have written and / or written/directed at least one short film.
  • Have not written a feature film (or at least not one that has been produced).
  • Be an AFCOOP member (Associate, Full or Lifetime). You can sign up for an Associate membership HERE.
