The aim of the AFCOOP Filmmaker In Residence Program is to provide a Maritime filmmaker with the resources and guidance to create a completed work with the support and participation of the community and to involve the community in their filmmaking process.

AFCOOP FILMMAKER IN RESIDENCE, TAREK ABOUAMIN, TO HOLD OPEN STUDIO VISITS MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS IN MARCH

As part of his AFCOOP Filmmaker in Residence, Tarek Abouamin will be holding open visitations during the Month of March. They will be

Mondays: 4PM to 6 PM

Wednesdays: 4PM to 6PM

These sessions will allow the public to directly interact with Mr. Abouamin one on one as he edits his film Gawab.

 

You need not pre- register, simply come to the CBC building, 5600 Sackville st. during Mr. Abouamin’s hours and ask security for AFCOOP.

OPEN GRANT DEADLINE APPROACHING-FEBRUARY 8th

The next deadline for AFCOOP’s bi-yearly OPEN GRANT is MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8th, 5PM.

This is an ongoing grant that was established decades ago. Its purpose is to support the production of independent films by AFCOOP members. There are only two deadlines per year now so make sure you get your application in.

AFCOOP FILMMAKER IN RESIDENCE TAREK ABOUAMIN TO GIVE FIRST IN SERIES OF WORKS IN PROGRESS TALKS JANUARY 28th

AFCOOP FILMMAKER IN RESIDENCE TO SHARE HIS FILM WITH HALIFAX

The Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative (AFCOOP) is pleased to present Tarek Abouamin as AFCOOP’s first Filmmaker in Residence.

Mr. Abouamin will be giving the first in a series of free public works in progress talks on THURSDAY, JANUARY 28th, at 7 PM in the CBC Radio Room, South park st. entrance of the CBC Radio Building, 5600 Sackville st. In this open talk, entitled “Gawabawat: an archive of family”, Mr. Abouamin will share his creative approach, thoughts and experiences during the envisioning and recent shooting of his documentary short film Gawab. He will also be screening a selection of raw footage from the film.

Mr. Abouamin will follow this talk with two more public presentations in March as he edits and works on Gawab. He will also hold Open Studio sessions for those interested during the month of March.  As a whole, this residency will provide an excellent opportunity for filmmakers and those interested in film to gain valuable insight into the creation of a documentary as it is being made.

ABOUT TAREK ABOUAMIN
Tarek Abouamin is an Egyptian-Nova Scotian filmmaker and professor of film production at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His intensely emotional cinematography has been showcased in award winning films. Abouamin’s various interests have lead to creative explorations in multiple medias: radio, architecture, theatre, and photography. A retrospective presentation of Abouamin’s photography premiered in Egypt at the Cairo Opera House in December 2009.

His current project, the AFCOOP Filmmaker in Residence (FIR) project GAWAB, is a filmic representation of a letter in the form of a short documentary about family, loss, and identity.

The following Workshops have been re-scheduled:

Cinematography Primer:Visual Style, with instructor Christopher Ball, Csc,  NEW DATE: Tuesday, March 30th, 6 PM – 10 PM

Sound Design Intensive, with instructor Eva Madden-Hagen NEW DATE: Saturday, April 10rd, 10 AM – 5 PM, Power Post, 1660 Hollis st. Halifax, NS

Due to popularity, we are adding a second AVID Editing Intensive, Saturday/Sunday, April 24th/25th 10am – 5pm, Sunday, May 2nd 12pm – 4pm

The Film History Crash Course, Kitchen Sink Realism, has been changed to Wednesday, Apri. 21, 6pm – 8:30pm, due to a snow storm.
