The Film History Crash Course, Session II: 1950- Today
Session Two, covering 1950 to the present, will begin January 27th, 2010. The most important points of Film History will be examined in two and a half hour classes which will include full screenings of complete films along with shorter excerpts. Areas covered will include the impact of television, auteur cinema, the impact of the national cinemas of various countries and cinema on the margins. General outlines of history and the context in which film operates as entertainment, education and art will also be considered.Whether you are new to filmmaking, a seasoned veteran or just want to extend your knowledge of film appreciation, this series offers you a unique opportunity usually not available outside of university film programs. Participants may enroll in the seminars individually or save money by taking the whole series. There are no pre-requisites and you need not to have taken Session I to take any of the Session II seminars.

The lecturer and Host will be Ron Foley Macdonald, Film Curator at the Dalhousie Art Gallery since 1988 and Senior Programmer at the Atlantic Film Festival. Macdonald is also a broadcaster, film critic and arts journalist who has written for The Globe and Mail, The Chronicle Herald and the Daily News.
