AFCOOP is accepting applications for two positions for the upcoming Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival in June 2017, a Communications Coordinator and a Sponsorship & Event Coordinator. Please see below for more information. The deadline for applications is March 20th, 5pm 2017.

POSITION: Communications Coordinator

Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival
DATES: April 3rd – July 7th 2017
DURATION: 14 weeks

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HIFF Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications and marketing plan for the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival in June of 2017. In this position, the coordinator will be responsible for the creation and distribution of press releases; updating social media; researching and connecting with other organizations and groups; and scheduling and booking ad space.

JOB COMPONENTS:

Planning
With the supervision of the HIFF Festival Coordinator, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for creating an overall communications plan for HIFF 2017. This plan will include deadlines and release dates for all print advertising, email newsletters, press releases and social media promotion.

Research and Content Creation
In conjunction with the HIFF Programming Committee, the Communications Coordinator will research and write press releases designed to highlight the artists whose work will be presented at HIFF 2017. Working with HIFF’s graphic designer and publicist, the Communications Coordinator will oversee the creation of marketing materials such as ads, highlight trailers and social media bursts. The Communications Coordinator will source or create written content for the HIFF web site, social media and AFCOOP newsletters.

Implementation
With support from other HIFF and AFCOOP staff, the Communication Coordinator will implement the communications and marketing plan for HIFF 2017 making adjustments and enhancements to the plan as it unfolds. During the festival, the Communications Coordinator will continue to update and roll out social media content and website updates.

Reporting
Following the festival the Communications Coordinator will assist with the compilation of final reports for the festival’s funders and sponsors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate should have experience with and knowledge of social media platforms, website software (such as WordPress), bulk email client applications and basic office tools such as Word, Excel and Photoshop. A background and/or interest in the film industry will be viewed favorably but is not necessary. This a learning position and the successful applicant will work with support and supervision from other HIFF and AFCOOP staff and committees.

ELIGIBILITY:
This job is funded through the Job Creation Partnership Program of Employment Nova Scotia. To be eligible for the position you must qualify for the program. Details about eligibility are below:

To be eligible for participation in Job Creation Partnerships, you must be an unemployed individual (“insured participant”) as defined by Section 58 of the Employment Insurance Act. This means that you are an individual for whom:

  • an unemployment benefit period has been established or has ended within the three years prior to the date of requesting assistance;
  • or a benefit period that included a maternity or parental claim has been established within the five years prior to the date of requesting assistance, after which you remained out of the labour market in order to care for a newborn or newly adopted child and are now seeking to re-enter the labour force.

SALARY: $15/hr based on a 35hr workweek.

POSITION: Sponsorship & Event Coordinator

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HIFF Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will be responsible for securing sponsorship and ad sales and assisting with basic logistics for the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival in June of 2017.

JOB COMPONENTS:

Sponsorship
With the assistance from the Festival Coordinator, the Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will be responsible for approaching HIFF’s existing list of sponsors and partners to discuss their involvement with HIFF 2017. In addition to maintaining these existing relationships, the Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will research and approach new potential sponsors as needed. The Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will oversee all sponsorship fulfillment and follow up.

Ad Sales
In conjunction with HIFF’s graphic designer, the Sponsorship & Event Coordiantor will update HIFF’s ad sale rate sheet for the HIFF programme guide. Utilizing this rate sheet and other promotional material about the festival, the Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will approach an existing list of local businesses in the downtown Halifax neighbourhood to sell ads in the HIFF guide. The Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will follow up with ad copy collection and work with the HIFF graphic designer to ensure that ads are placed properly.

Event Logistics
Working closely with the HIFF Festival Coordinator, the Sponsorship & Event Coordinator will assist with festival logistics including: flight bookings, hotel bookings, venue coordination, program guide distribution, delegate registration, box office catering and reception planning.
