FILM 5 Program Call for Applicants
Nova Scotia’s renowned training opportunity for emerging filmmakers.
Deadline for Applications: Monday October 5th, 2020 11:59pm

The Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative invites emerging Nova Scotia filmmakers to apply to the FILM 5 Program 2020/21. FILM 5 is a professional and creative development program for directors, screenwriters and producers. The program culminates in providing each accepted team with the opportunity to produce a short film.

The deadline for applications is Monday October 5th, 2020 at 11:59pm. The program begins in late October. Applications and program guidelines can be downloaded here

Participants will attend intensive workshops and receive mentorship from professional filmmakers and up to four teams will be awarded cash and services to produce a short film. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Nova Scotia, Canadian citizens or permanent residents, have some basic film experience and demonstrate a commitment to pursuing filmmaking at a professional level.

Please note, due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19 the first phase of FILM 5 2020/21 is currently planned to be delivered online. A decision has not yet been made on the delivery-method of the second phase of the program.

Over the past 20 plus years FILM 5 has helped launch the careers of the region’s most prolific and successful filmmakers including: Thom Fitzgerald (CloudburstThe Hanging Garden), Andrea Dorfman (Heartbeat, Love That Boy), Andrew Bush (RollertownPicnic Face), Ashley McKenzie (Werewolf), Deanne Foley (Relative Happiness), Marc Almon (Blackbird, Weirdos), Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), and Heather Young (Murmur) to name only a few.

This year AFCOOP is holding a series of FREE preparatory workshops to help filmmakers develop their ideas and get their applications ready. Don’t miss this opportunity to jumpstart your application and give yourself a leg up on the competition! For each workshop you attend you will be able to receive $10 off your application fee to FILM 5. Attend all three and your application is FREE (a savings of $30!) Registration is required.

FILM 5 Prep: Script Clinic 
August 18th, 6pm – FREE (on Zoom)
Do you have an idea for a FILM 5 script? Join us for this basic introduction to screenwriting, followed by an opportunity to receive valuable feedback on your idea from an experienced screenwriter. Feel free to attend with or without an idea for a short film. All are welcome.

FILM 5 Prep: Producing is Fun!
August 25th, 6pm – FREE (on Zoom)
Active and experienced producers will join us to discuss being a creative producer on a short film. Whether you have a budding interest in filmmaking, are a director looking to expand your skill set, or are an emerging producer, all are welcome to attend. Come find out why these busy producers love their jobs!
