NOW HIRING: Technical and Production Coordinator, Full-Time Position

AFCOOP is looking to hire a full-time Technical and Production Coordinator to lead the co-op’s busy equipment and facilities rental operations and to support the production of independent films through training and mentorship. The Technical and Production Coordinator will work with other staff and AFCOOP’s Production Committee to oversee AFCOOP’s technical and production related activities and to help bring those resources to our community of independent filmmakers and media artists.

Job Components:
The Technical and Production Coordinator role will involve the following: equipment and facilities bookings, returns and testing; equipment repair management, inventory tracking and ordering; committee coordination and facilitation; research and preparation of technical related grants; supporting the technical needs of AFCOOP’s programs; working with filmmakers to design equipment packages; providing technical advice, instruction and troubleshooting; assistance with AFCOOP’s presentation activities; upkeep of AFCOOP’s post-production facilities; administration and record keeping; workshop planning, coordination and implementation.

Looking for someone who has:
– A passion for filmmaking; 

– Experience with filmmaking production equipment, (HD cameras, camera support, lighting and sound recording equipment);
– Experience or basic familiarity with analog filmmaking technologies (Super 8, 16mm, etc);
– Experience with digital editing software;
– Willingness to aid others in learning and mastering the tools of cinematic production;
– Excellent research capabilities and the capacity to be self-directed both in achieving tasks and finding solutions to problems;
– A genuine enthusiasm in analog filmmaking technologies, ie: Super 8, 16mm and 35mm film, film projectors, hand editing with Steenbeck flatbed editing tables, methods of transferring film-captured imagery to a digital platform and;
– A desire to learn and grow as an artist and technician.

AFCOOP offers:
As a full-time staff person the successful candidate will have access to AFCOOP’s free staff equipment rental policy, five paid days off per year to work on their own film, four weeks of vacation (two weeks during the Holiday office closure in Dec./Jan and two weeks of their choosing), professional development opportunities and health benefits.

Hours of work:
The Technical and Production Coordinator will be employed in the AFCOOP office five days per week (Monday – Friday), 9am – 5pm.

*COVID-19 note: This position is based in the AFCOOP office in downtown Halifax. AFCOOP’s other staff are currently working part-time in the office and part-time from home. Mask wearing and proper hand sanitization will be required when interacting with the public.
