Filmmaking with Plants

Saturday, August 7th, 2021 (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM) (Rain date: August 14th)
Registration: $20 AFCOOP members, $25 non-members

Make films with the plants in your neighbourhood.

Join the Handmade Film Collective for an afternoon of phytogram fun. Phytogramming is a technique that makes it possible to render detailed chemical traces of plants directly on 16mm film emulsion.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will be introduced to the process, its history, notable artists working in the field, and its connection to the environment. We will then head out to forge for plants and begin making our films. The workshop will culminate with a screening of our phytogram film creations!

Please bring your own lunch, water-bottle, sunscreen, hat, and mask.

The majority of this workshop takes place outside, however due to COVID restrictions and regulations; participants are required to wear masks during the entire workshop.

Explore the power of plants through 16mm film!
