GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating AFCOOP’s filmmaking training programs including FILM 5, FILM 1, DIY Doc, and various other one-time programs as well as coordinating the Intro to Filmmaking workshop series and our Grants for Filmmakers program, and responding to membership enquiries and coordinating other membership-related matters.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative. The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will work closely with other AFCOOP staff in the delivery of AFCOOP programs.
JOB COMPONENTS
Program Design
The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will assist in the development and design of film training and production programs including the creation of new programs as well as refining the structure and format of existing programs based on feedback from staff, past participants and other stakeholders.
Program Planning
The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for planning AFCOOP’s filmmaking training programs including creating and managing the schedule and overall timeline of events. The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will work with other staff to help promote the programs’ various milestones including the call for applications, announcement of successful participants and the date of premiere screening or similar.
Program Delivery
The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for managing the delivery of AFCOOP’s training programs including organizing and hosting information sessions, facilitating the jury process, sourcing and communicating with instructors, sourcing and communicating with mentors, communicating with participants, and providing mentorship and administrative support to the participants throughout the process.
Program Reporting
The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will compile information needed for reporting on AFCOOP’ programs including collecting lists of workshops, attendance, feedback from participants and any other information relevant to the report.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be based in the office of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, 9am – 5pm. The Programs and Outreach Coordinator will also be required to work outside regular business hours to attend workshops, meetings and events. This time will be deducted from the time they are required to be in the AFCOOP office.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
The ideal candidate will have a combination of filmmaking and adult education experience. Basic knowledge of the filmmaking process and the Nova Scotia film community is essential and film education or equivalent experience is preferred. There is also a significant outreach component to this position and many of the programs are participatory in nature so having a grounding in adult education or working with a community organization is also a major asset.
Having knowledge in Adobe systems (Premiere Pro etc.), Microsoft (Excel, Word etc.) and basic knowledge in WordPress would be an asset.

As a full-time staff person the successful candidate will have access to AFCOOP’s free staff equipment rental policy, five paid days off per year to work on their own film, four weeks of vacation (two weeks during the Holiday office closure in Dec./Jan and two weeks of their choosing), professional development opportunities and health benefits.
*Note about hours: the AFCOOP permanent staff have moved to a 4 day work week (Tuesday – Friday). This position will be 5 days /week for the first year and then will go down to 4 days / week (with no reduction in pay) after the successful completion of the first annual performance review.
