AFCOOP Is Hiring! — Technical and Production Coordinator

Location: AFCOOP Office, 1800 Argyle Street, Suite 303, Kjipuktuk/Halifax, NS

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of the AFCOOP Technical and Production shall include, but not be limited to:

• To maintain rental production equipment and in-house post-production/production suites and ensure that equipment and suites are functional and supplied.

• To prepare, check and assess production equipment and in-house post-production/production suites for rental, including internal AFCOOP programs, workshops and screenings/events.

• To check and assess production equipment upon return, and check and assess suites and other equipment and facilities after usage.

• To invoice and receive payment for all facility and production equipment rentals, supply sales and member transactions through AFCOOP accounts and record all such transactions into the accounting system, including internal AFCOOP programs.

• To maintain and improve, when able, the rental procedures and systems.

• Enforce all AFCOOP rental procedures and policies ie: type of production, member type and status, cancellation of rental contracts, technical clearance, overdue bookings, damaged equipment, etc.

• In consultation with the Executive Director, arrange for and execute the repairs of production equipment and in-house post-production/production suite equipment. This includes receiving quotes and shipping equipment for repair. Where able, make repairs personally.

JOB COMPONENTS

• Perform and analyze equipment tests and results, and report to the Executive Director the results of said tests and the resulting recommendations.

• Act as staff liaison to the Production Committee and along with the Chair of that committee, help to organize meetings, set agendas and follow up on action items prioritized by the committee.

• Conduct research for and assist in the writing and preparation of equipment related grants.

• Make recommendations to the Production Committee and Executive Director for new equipment purchases and plans. To conduct research related to the purchase of new equipment or to delegate research projects to the Production Committee or sub-committees as appropriate.

• Provide equipment and facilities-related support to members, renters, program participants, workshop instructors, AFCOOP staff and others requiring technical advice and guidance.

• Provide technical set-up and projectionist labour for AFCOOP events including, but not limited to, screenings,  workshops, parties, and other AFCOOP events including assisting with workshop planning, coordination and implementation.

• Conduct regular inventories of film stock, consumables, and other supplies.

• Ship out, receive and, where necessary, track Members’ film shipments, AFCOOP programs, workshops and general AFCOOP film shipments.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

• Prepare and release as needed, in consultation with the Executive Director, press releases, posters, advertisements, rate sheets, booking sheets and other informational and promotional material relating to AFCOOP equipment and rentals. 

• Prepare a monthly Board report and submit it to the Executive Director.

• Prepare a quarterly General Meeting report and Annual General Meeting report and submit them to the Executive Director. Attend all General Meetings and Annual General Meeting and give verbal reports to the membership. 

• Other duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will be based in the office of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, 9am – 5pm. The Technical & Production Coordinator will also be required to work outside regular business hours to attend workshops, meetings and events. This time will be deducted from the time they are required to be in the AFCOOP office.

As a full-time staff person the successful candidate will have access to AFCOOP’s free staff equipment rental policy, five paid days off per year to work on their own film, four weeks of vacation (two weeks during the Holiday office closure in Dec./Jan and two weeks of their choosing), professional development opportunities and health benefits.

*Note about hours: the AFCOOP permanent staff have moved to a 4 day work week (Tuesday – Friday). This position will be 5 days /week for the first 1-2 months and then will go down to 4 days / week (with no reduction in pay) after the successful completion of this period.
