In celebration of the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative darkroom opening after years in development, AFCOOP is thrilled to announce a national call for submissions to its two-week analog-focused paid residency in November 2025.
This paid opportunity will give the participant access to AFCOOP’s darkroom lab and analog editing suite, the incredible analog gear collection including 8, 16, and 35mm motion picture cameras, an Oxberry Animation Stand, projectors, a JK Optical Printer and more. They will also receive 400′ of 3378 stock.
The participating filmmaker will be required to give one presentation/workshop and conduct open studio work sessions once a week (2 total) for an agreed upon time, where local filmmakers can learn about the processes of the participating artist.
It is not mandatory that the artist start and complete the project during this time, but it is mandatory that they provide materials as example and evidence of their work conducted upon completion of the residency.
Residency period:
November 4th — 18th, 2025
Deadline to submit:
Friday, July 25th, 2025 at 11:59pm AST
Participation fee:
The duration of the residency will be two-weeks long and use a standardized Independent Media Arts Alliance artist talk fee of $560 for the presentation, in addition to a livable wage of $1,000 per week (total: $2,560.00). The payment will be provided after an invoice has been sent upon the completion of the residency.
The participant is responsible for covering their travel, accommodations, and any additional equipment/gear expenses outside of AFCOOP’s offerings. AFCOOP is happy to provide a letter of support in the case that the artist is applying for a grant to cover those costs.
