FILM 5 Program Call for Applications
Nova Scotia’s renowned training opportunity for emerging filmmakers

Deadline for ApplicationsTuesday Oct. 3rd 2017 5pm

The Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative invites emerging Nova Scotia filmmakers to apply to the FILM 5 Program 2017/18. FILM 5 is a professional and creative development program for directors, screenwriters and producers. The program culminates in providing each accepted team with the opportunity to produce a short film.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday Oct. 3rd 2017 at 5pm. The program begins in late October. Applications and program guidelines can be downloaded here

Participants will attend intensive workshops and receive mentorship from professional filmmakers and up to four teams will be awarded cash and services to produce a short film. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Nova Scotia, have some basic film experience and demonstrate a commitment to pursuing filmmaking at a professional level.

Over the past 22 years FILM 5 has helped launch the careers of the region’s most prolific and successful filmmakers including: Thom Fitzgerald (CloudburstThe Hanging Garden), Andrea Dorfman (Heartbeat, Love That Boy), Andrew Bush (RollertownPicnic Face), Ashley McKenzie (Werewolf), Deanne Foley (Relative Happiness), Marc Almon (Blackbird, Weirdos) and Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun) to name only a few.

“The FILM 5 program is a true gem. The support, mentorship, and resources I received were incredible – they allowed me to realize my concept beyond what I could have possibly imagined, and actually took it to a whole new level. As an aspiring filmmaker looking to make the next leap, I can’t recommend FILM 5 enough.” – Andrew Coll, writer/director 2016/17

This year AFCOOP is holding a series of FREE preparatory workshops to help filmmakers develop their ideas and get their applications ready. Don’t miss this opportunity to jumpstart your application and give yourself a leg up on the competition!

For each workshop you attend you will be able to receive $10 off your application fee to FILM 5. Attend all three and your application is FREE (a savings of $30!) Registration is required.

“I am so honoured to be a part of this program. So many great filmmakers went through it before me, and especially with the uncertainty of the industry right now it’s a huge blessing to be counted among them. I’ve gained so much knowledge and insight through my FILM 5 peers and the instructors.” – Nicole Holland, writer/director 2015/16
